The ongoing state of war in Ukraine, initiated by Russia, has shocked the entire globe. All the industries have been impacted and sports have been no different. Various federations have reacted to the current situation and have announced boycott to Vladimir Putin led country, in response to their actions. While UEFA have shifted this year's UCL final from St. Petersburg to Paris, many other mega events slated to take place in Russia, have also been moved away.

Well, Formula One has adopted a similar approach! The Russian GP, which was scheduled to take place on September 25 in Sochi, has been cancelled. However, the ongoing situation of crisis has also put the future of young Russian driver, Nikita Mazepin's future under clouds of doubt.

Haas boss opens up on Mazepin-Uralkali situation

During the pre-season testing in Barcelona, F1 team Haas decided to drop the branding of Uralkali (Russian company, owned by Nikita's father) and logo from their car. The move caught everyone's attention and team boss Guenther Steiner provided an update on the future of Russian driver and sponsor in F1 2022.

"It needs to be resolved. Not everything depends from us here what is happening. There's governments involved, I have no power over them, and we also need to see how the situation develops in Ukraine," Steiner said.

Reacting to the difficult situation, young Nikita Mazepin also took to Twitter and thanked fans for their support. The 22-year-old added that he has no control over other things evolving around him and he continues to remain focused on what he can do i.e. working hard on the track.

It has been reported that a final call on the same will be taken in coming days by Haas. If Nikita Mazepin is dropped from the team, reserve driver Pietro Fittipaldi could be one of the names who would be in contention for F1 seat in 2022.
