India’s Lakshya Sen in the latest BWF Rankings jumped five places to take the 13th spot following an impressive run at the All England Championships. The 22-year-old Indian shuttler reached the semifinals of the tournament and this effort saw him rise up in the latest BWF Rankings.

Seeing this jump, Lakshya Sen has mathematically earned a qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics, set to be played from July 26 till August 11 in the French capital. The top 16 players in the world by April end will make the cut for the Summer Olympics. If so be it, Lakshya Sen will join HS Prannoy in the men’s singles category.

It is to be noted that the last time two Indian men’s singles players qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics, was in 2004. It was Abhinn Shyam Gupta and Nikhil Kanetkat, who featured in the Olympics in Athens, Greece.

Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand and Kidambi Srikanth likely to miss Paris Olympics qualification

With two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu, along with HS Prannoy, Lakshya Sen and the doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy- Chirag Shetty and Ashwini Ponnappa-Tanisha Crasto already sealing the Olympics qualification, it might be difficult for the pair of Tressa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand and Kidambi Srikanth to make the cut with April 28 being the deadline.

It is to be noted that a country can field a maximum of two players of teams in each category. Taking note of the qualification scenario, in singles category, players need to be in the top 16, while in doubles, one team will qualify if it is in the top 16 and two teams can make the cut if both are in top 8.
