Angelo Mathews announced retirement from international Test cricket through a social media post. The veteran will play his last game in the format against Bangladesh, set to be held in Galle from June 17 to 21. He served Sri Lanka for 16 years in red-ball cricket and during this period, he has scored 8167 runs in 210 innings of 118 games at an average of 48.45. With these numbers, he is the third-leading run-scorer for his national team.

Mathews also holds the fourth place on the list of batters with most centuries for Sri Lanka. In his long-career, he has notched up 16 tons. With him, Dimuth Karunaratne, Dinesh Chandimal, Marvan Atapattu, and Tilakaratne Dilshan have also scored 16 centuries in their respective careers. Mathews' record is magnificent against India and England as he has struck three centuries respectively against both sides. He has also two centuries each against Pakistan, New Zealand, and Bangladesh. His maiden ton came against Australia in 2011, when he hit an unbeaten 105 in Colombo. 

He recorded his best Test knock of an unbeaten 200 against Zimbabwe in Harare in January 2020. Of his 16 centuries, he has racked up eight in overseas conditions. In June 2014, he scored hundreds in London and Leeds.
