England legendary batter Joe Root achieved a sensational record with his innings against Zimbabwe on the first day of the four-day Test getting played at Trent Bridge. Batting first, the English side did aggressive batting and posted 498/3 on the board at the close of play. The hosts’ top-order batters Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, and Ollie Pope looked in sensational touch and went on to produce centuries from their bats. Root, who came to bat at number four, was expected to score 28 runs from his bat to become the first England batter to reach the milestone of notching up 13000 runs in red-ball cricket.

The right-handed batter reached the feat by stealing a single on a delivery from pacer Victor Nyauchi. His magnificent achievement was celebrated by Trent Bridge spectators who stood up and clapped for him in appreciation. The English veteran pulled off the feat in 279 innings which makes him the slowest batter in the league of batting maestros such as Rahul Dravid, Jacques Kallis, Ricky Ponting, and Sachin Tendulkar.
