Pakistan have qualified for the Final of the T20 World Cup 2022 and will play against England in the hope to win a second T20 WC title. The Men in Green have previously played two finals- in 2007 and 2009. While Pakistan lost to arch-rivals India in the 2007 World Cup Final, they beat Sri Lanka in the 2009 Final to lift their maiden title.

The Men in Green, under the leadership of Shahid Afridi, beat Kumar Sangakkara’s team by eight wickets to bring the ultimate glory to the country. Captain Afridi played a match-winning knock of 54* to power the team to a victory. He got good support from Shoaib Malik who scored 24 runs off 22 balls and stayed with Afridi till the end to see the team through.

Now, as Pakistan are ready to play another final, former Pakistan cricketers, Shoaib Malik, Misbah Ul Haq, and Wasim Akram revisited the last two finals the team played. During the same, Malik got emotional as he remembered a gesture from Younis Khan post the title victory. Malik remembered that Younis Khan asked him to lift the trophy and that felt really special to him.

“When we won the World Cup in 2009, Younis Khan called me and said ‘you hold the trophy’. And that was very special,” the veteran middle-order batter said.

Coming to the T20 World Cup 2022 Final, the Babar Azam-led side have turned the fortunes around and now will be playing the final on Sunday (13 November). Their players have peaked at the right time. Pakistan’s last concern, Babar Azam’s form has also been addressed as the Pakistan captain scored a half-century against New Zealand in the semifinals.
