Kolkata Knight Riders, who opened the ongoing season of Indian Premier League on a disappointing note after a seven-run defeat against Shikhar Dhawan-led PBKS, defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore in their second match at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The odds were completely in favour of Faf du Plessis-led RCB as they were stepping on the ground after defeating five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians in their first match.
However, what came out of the match wasn’t exactly as per everyone’s expectations, and RCB lost the match by a big margin of 81 runs. One batter who came into everybody’s notice was KKR’s Mandeep Singh. Despite a flop performance against Punjab Kings, the out-of-the-form batter was given a chance in the next match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, which he sadly couldn't stand up to.
Mandeep was handed a golden duck by David Willey in the fourth over of the match. Former Indian cricketer and one of the greats of the game, Sunil Gavaskar, who was a part of the commentary box was one of those who seemed to be very unhappy with the batter’s performance. “He finds a franchise every time, but he hasn't done much,” Gavaskar said about the Punjab born batter on air.
The former India skipper lashed out at the 31-year-old batter saying that he hasn’t done much justification to his place.
It is to be noted that the Kolkata batter now holds an unwanted record of the highest number of ducks (15) in the history of the tournament. He has surpassed Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik in the list of the players with most golden ducks.
The Kolkata-based franchise will now clash against the reigning champions, Gujarat Titans on April 9 (Sunday) at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
