Indian bowling coach Morne Morkel provided a big update on fast bowler Mohammed Shami for the fifth and the final T20I of the ongoing series against England. Notably, making his comeback in the Indian squad for the ongoing series against England, Shami wasn’t included in the playing XI for the first two games. However, the right-arm pacer finally made his return in the Indian jersey for the third T20I in Rajkot on January 28,  but was benched again for the fourth T20I in Pune.

Now, as India have already clinched the series by 3-1, the main question in the mind of fans is whether Mohammed Shami will get a chance in the fifth and the final T20I. However, Morne Morkel gave a positive update that the fast bowler is bowling well in the nets. “Shami has been bowling really well. Catching to him at warmups – he is really hitting the glove hard. So very happy while he’s coming along,” Morkel was quoted as saying by News18.

Shami is probably going to get an opportunity the next game: Morne Morkel

Speaking further, Morne Morkel also said that Mohammed Shami is likely to get a game during the final T20I against England. Shami has also been included in the Indian squad for the upcoming ODI series against and the 2025 Champions Trophy. His role will be important for Men in Blue for the upcoming tournament considering his heroics in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India.

“He’s (Shami) probably going to get an opportunity the next game. We’ll see, see how things go. But yeah, excited to hear have him back in the group just for him to share his experience and his knowledge at training is a massive boost for this young bowling unit and for Indian cricket. Great to have Shami back in the mix,"Morne Morkel said.
