Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly picked Ishan Kishan as his wicketkeeper-batter choice for the forthcoming Asia Cup and World Cup 2023. With the major tournaments knocking on our doors, it has become extremely important for the Indian squad to have a name that can fill the wicketkeeper-batter spot in the squad. Now that India’s reliable wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is out of action due to injury, Ganguly feels that Ishan Kishan can take on the duties in the upcoming competitions.

In a recent interview, the former BCCI President said, "Pant is the best wicketkeeper in the country, but you can see Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul; these two will be right up in Rohit's and Rahul's minds. I like Ishan Kishan because he just opens up the game for any team. I am sure Dravid will keep him in his plans.”

Speaking of the team he visions for the marquee events, the former India great emphasised on having a balanced team, with a combination of experienced players and fresh talent. Not only this, but the 51-year-old also said that India coach Rahul Dravid has many options to choose from, and hence, he should focus on picking the best playing XI.

The India great added, "It has to be a team of experience and people who don't have any scars -- like Jaiswal, Varma, Ishan Kishan. They can go and play fearless cricket. Rahul, Rohit and the selectors have plenty of choices; they just have to identify and pick the best XI.”

Notably, the Asia Cup 2023 is set to commence on August 30, whereas the World Cup 2023 will begin on October 5. The curtain raiser of the marquee ICC event will be a rematch of the 2019 World Cup final.
