Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan revealed his conversation with fellow actor and co-star Anushka Sharma, who is also the wife of talismanic India batter Virat Kohli. Dhawan, who shares a special bond with Sharma, revealed an anecdote, revealing a glimpse into Kohli’s emotional struggles and vulnerable moments on England tour. According to Dhawan, Anushka found Kohli crying in his room after India lost the Test, despite his century. Notably, Kohli is currently touring Australia for the five-match Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, and there are rumours floating that the celebrated couple might move their bases to London, once the cricketer decides to hang up his boots.
Dhawan appeared on The Ranveer Show, where he recalled insights from Anushka about the batting icon’s mindset during one of the toughest phases in his career. He recalled the Edgbaston Test against England in Birmingham, where the cricketer scored 149 in first innings, and followed it up with 51. However, the visitors fell short of 31 runs and lost the game. He went on to reveal that when Anushka returned to their room, he found Kohli crying and he was holding himself accountable for the loss as the captain.
He took the whole thing on himself: Varun Dhawan recalls anecdote regarding Virat Kohli
Varun Dhawan recalled the incident that Anushka told him and told Ranveer, "I think it was a Nottingham Test. Where India had lost, and she said she didn’t attend that game that day. She came back; she didn’t know where Virat was, and she came to the room and saw him laid down, literally crying. How he took the whole thing on himself, like I failed, when he was still the highest scorer that day. He was the captain of the side.”
It is to be noted that while Virat Kohli has already quit the T20I career, Anushka is semi-retired at this point. Her last move came six years ago in 2018, and since then, she is committed to raising her two children with husband Virat. Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma recently revealed that the couple is set to move to London once he announces his retirement.
