England Women's captain Heather Knight is set to miss September's white-ball series against India after undergoing hip surgery. The talismanic all-rounder suffered the hip injury during a T20 international against South Africa and hence missed the subsequent Commonwealth Games, but she hopes to return quickly.

Heather Knight picked up the injury during the first T20I of the bilateral series against South Africa on 21 July. She was a part of England's CWG 2022 squad as captain but after England's first two games, in which she sat out, the team management said that the injury had "failed to settle down as expected."

Knight had taken injections in her hip joint before being out for the last two matches of the South Africa series in the hope to recover, but Sciver expressed after England's first two CWG 2022 games said, "She's not in a good place. She's better than she has been in the last few days, still in a bit of pain with her hip."

The 31-year-old expressed on Friday that she has now undergone surgery and is set to miss the India series as well as the Women's Big Bash League, which will start in October. She posted on Twitter and said, “Surgery ✅ I’ve had a little clean-out of my hip to get me back and running soon. Unfortunately, it rules me out of the India series and the WBBL, but I’m aiming to be back by the end of the year . Time to make the most of a bit of time away and bring on the rehab!”

The English team will go head to head against India in an ODI and T20I series. The T20 series will start on 10 September, while the ODI series begins on 18 September.

Nat Sciver-led England in Heather Knight's absence during the Commonwealth Games. The hosts were knocked out by India in the semi-final and then lost to New Zealand in the bronze medal match. Knight was also set to lead London Spirit in The Hundred but has been out of the 100-ball competition this season.
