Former England all-rounder Moeen Ali has praised Mohammed Siraj for his extraordinary performance in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. Siraj spearheaded India’s bowling attack confidently and guided India to triumph at Edgbaston and The Oval. In the final Test, the speedster snatched victory from the jaws of defeat by picking up England’s three off final four wickets on the last day. He ended up as the most successful bowler in the series with 23 wickets and now, his performance is getting hailed by former servants of the sport. Sachin Tendulkar, Greg Chappell, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mike Atherton, and former New Zealand captain and now-England coach Brendon McCullum also praised the 31-year-old’s effort in the competition.
Moeen, who played 68 Tests for England from 2014 to 2023, has also applauded Siraj’s gallant bowling show in the series. The 38-year-old spoke to ANI and said that Siraj’s performance against England indicates that he has become a plausible match-winner for India. "Siraj has been outstanding in the England series. The energy, aggression, and consistency he brings with the ball is world-class. He's matured into a genuine match-winner for India, and it's always a challenge for batsmen facing him. What impresses me most is his ability to control the ball. He has got a big heart and never backs down. That is what makes him so special. Credit to him for the impact he's making," remarked Moeen.
Mohammed Siraj’s sensational Test record at The Oval
Mohammed Siraj possesses magnificent Test bowling numbers at The Oval. The pacer has played three contests at the distinguished venue in which he has clinched 15 wickets in six innings. In India’s six-run win, he chipped in with nine wickets and got the Player Of The Match (POTM) award.
Siraj’s role will be crucial for India in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle. Captain Shubman Gill will want his crucial bowler to keep on shining with the ball so that the side succeed in lifting up the WTC mace in 2027.
