Mirabai Chanu Delivers India's First Gold
India got a fantastic boost when Mirabai Chanu successfully defended her Commonwealth title. The talented weightlifter from Manipur became just the second Indian, following Vinesh Phogat, to snag three consecutive individual gold medals at the Commonwealth Games. Her lead was so substantial that she decided to skip her final attempt, having already secured another commanding victory. This win adds to her incredible list of accomplishments, which includes an Olympic silver medal, a World Championship gold, and several Commonwealth titles.
India Eye Strong Performances on Day 5
The spotlight will be on Gurindervir Singh, who enters the men's 100m after setting a national record of 10.09 seconds at the Federation Cup, becoming the first Indian to run below 10.10 seconds. Long jumper Murali Sreeshankar, the Birmingham 2022 silver medallist, will target a place in the final during qualification. In weightlifting, Gyaneshwari Yadav and Bindyarani Devi will compete in their respective finals. Bindyarani, who claimed Commonwealth silver in 2022 with a combined lift of 203kg, will aim to add another medal as India looks to build on its strong start to the Games.
