As the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is advancing to its half-stage mark, five-time champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are the only team to have registered five defeats, most so far in the tournament. On Friday, April 11, the Yellow Army went down against the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by eight-wicket margin to continue to reel at the ninth place in the IPL 2025 points table.

Although, the Men in Yellow are known to be joint-most successful team in the cash-rich league history, but their season this time around has been nothing short of a disappointment. However, they will be looking to get their season on track with only eight matches left from hereon for them and confirm their playoffs berth in IPL 2025.

How can CSK qualify for IPL 2025 playoffs after five defeats in six matches?

With their fifth straight defeat in the ongoing season coming on Friday, April 11, their chances of qualifying for the playoffs is in danger now. With eight matches left for them, the Chennai-based franchise cannot afford to lose any match from here as the teams with 14 points will manage to confirm their place in the final four.

But the biggest question remains is how can they still earn qualification from here. To keep themselves alive in the competition, CSK will have to win at least seven of their eight matches. If they manage to do so, with 16 points in their kitty, they will be able to qualify for the final four. Even if they manage to finish with 14 points after 70 league matches, they will have an outside chance of making to the playoffs.

The MS Dhoni-led CSK will next travel to Lucknow to take on Rishabh Pant-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Monday, April 14.
