Rohit Sharma once again led the Indian cricket team to the title triumph, ending their 12-year-long wait of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy. Entering the summit clash on the back of a four-match winning streak, India went onto lift the title, beating New Zealand by four wickets in the final in Dubai on Sunday, March 9.
After losing the toss in the match and being put to chase 252-run target, Rohit Sharma led from the front with his 76-run knock. Although, he missed a ton, but managed to get his maiden 50-plus run score on the board in an ICC ODI final. Moreover, with the win, India also took home a massive sum of USD 2.24 million (INR 19.45 Crore) from the prize money along with the coveted trophy.
Additionally, for going through unbeaten in the group stage, picking up wins against Bangladesh, Pakistan and New Zealand, India notched a further $102,000 (INR 88.96 Lakh) - $34,000 per win. On the whole, India earned $2.467 million (INR 21.52 Crore) in prize money for winning the Champions Trophy in Dubai.
How much will runners-up New Zealand take home?
Earlier, the International Cricket Council (ICC) had announced a record sum of INR 59 Crore (USD 6.9 million) as the prize money for the marquee tournament. While this was a benchmark decision seeing the tournament get a 53 per cent increase as compared to the 2017 edition. Seeing this, while India will take home a sum of INR 19.45 Crore, the runners-up, New Zealand will receive INR 9.72 Crore (USD 1.12 million).
Apart from this, the losing semi-finalists, in this edition, South Africa and Australia will take home INR 4.86 Crore (USD 560,000) each. Also all eight participating teams were guaranteed a base participation prize of USD 125,000. Additionally, teams earned USD 34,000 for every match then won during the course of the tournament.
