World Number eight Jannik Sinner shocked the tennis world as he showed off at Wimbledon 2023 with an on-white Gucci bag in his match against Juan Manuel Cerundolo and Diego Schwartzman. The authorities at the All England Club have been known to be extremely strict regarding the colours of a player’s uniform and kit as they have applied big fines for any disruption of the rules.

Later it was revealed that Sinner and his team with help from Gucci had to take a lot of permissions from organisations like the International Tennis Federation, ATP and the Grand Slams for being allowed to carry a ‘non-white’ coloured bag. Talking about the steps taken to permit Sinner for using the bag, a Gucci spokesperson said, “We worked with Sinner’s team for the approvals from the ITF (International Tennis Federation), ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) and Grand Slams, including Wimbledon, to ensure the bag met the necessary requirements.”

Further speaking about respecting the traditions at Wimbledon, Jannik Sinner talked about how the strict dress code at The Championships creates a ‘unique atmosphere’ making the event special. “Wimbledon is the most historic and prestigious tournament in tennis," he said. “The strict dress code is rooted in tradition, respect for the sport's history and a desire to maintain formality. It also creates a very unique atmosphere which makes Wimbledon really special, in my opinion.”

Addressing Sinner’s performances in the Grand Slam, the Italian has won both his games so far as he defeated Cerundolo 6-2,6-2,6-2 and Schwartzman 7-5, 6-1, 6-2. Cruising into the third round, Sinner will hope to replicate his magic run from the previous Wimbledon where lost to Novak Djokovic in the quarter-final stage.
