The New Zealand versus Sri Lanka match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru will be a crucial game for teams like New Zealand, Pakistan, and Afghanistan in terms of qualifying for the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup 2023. A victory for New Zealand would make life difficult for both Pakistan and Afghanistan to qualify for the knock-out stage in this tournament, but if New Zealand vs Sri Lanka gets washed out, then the Kiwis may miss out on the big opportunity of reaching the semi-finals.
Here, in this article, we will see how Pakistan can qualify if the NZ vs SL match gets washed out:
- Teams like India, South Africa, and Australia have already qualified for the semi-finals with 12 (or) more points in the table
- Teams like the Netherlands, England, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka can't reach the landmark of 10 points in the table. Hence, these four sides won't impact semi-final qualification if NZ vs SL gets washed out.
- If NZ vs SL gets washed out, then New Zealand will end at nine points in the table.
- Both Pakistan and Afghanistan have eight points in the table.
Thus, for Pakistan to qualify for the semi-finals:
- Afghanistan should lose to South Africa at Ahmedabad (Afghanistan stays at 8 points)
- Pakistan should beat England at Kolkata (Pakistan moves to 10 points)
If the above two points happen, then Pakistan will qualify for the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup 2023 with 10 points, and they will face table-toppers India at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on November 16.
