Virender Sehwag appreciated Dhruv Jurel in a post on X for his match-defining innings in the fourth Test against England while calling out the media for no hype around him. But, upon receiving fan criticism, the 45-year-old issued a clarification post, speaking about how he is not trying to “degrade or demean anyone,” wanting to see the hype for everyone.
On Day 3 of the fourth Test match in Ranchi, Dhruv Jurel scored a 90, controlling the Indian innings with the tailenders at the other end to help propel their first innings total to 307 after they were struggling at 177-7 at one stage. But England still managed to take a vital first-innings lead of 46 runs at the JSCA International Cricket Stadium.
It led to Virender Sehwag appreciating the skill and temperament of Dhruv Jurel on his official X account, wishing him all the best for his future while taking a dig at “no media hype’ around him. His post read, “No media hype, no drama, just some outstanding skills and quietly showed great temperament in a very difficult situation. Very Well done Dhruv Jurel. Best wishes.”
Following criticism from some fans in the comments section, Virender Sehwag issued a clarification post on X, about how he was not trying to “degrade or demean anyone” in his assessment. He also spoke about how hype should be around everyone who delivers performances for his team, and it should be equal.
The former ODI World Cup winner said, “Not to degrade or demean anyone, but hype should be on performance and be equal. Some guys have bowled brilliantly, some have batted exceptionally but haven’t got the hype they deserve. Akash Deep was outstanding here, Yashasvi has been brilliant through the series and so was Sarfaraz at Rajkot and Dhruv Jurel in all his opportunities. Hype sabko karo.”
Moreover, the fifty from Dhruv Jurel allowed India to make a comeback into the contest before the bowlers ran through England, bowling them out for just 145 runs in their second innings. At the close of play on Day 3, India are 40/0 with the captain Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal at the crease, needing a further 152 runs to win the Test match and the series.
