Former South Africa skipper Faf Du Plessis dropped major hint on his return to international cricket ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. Du Plessis last appeared in Proteas’ jersey in December 2020 and since then, he has been playing in various T20I leagues around the world. While the news comes as a relief for the South African team, the same cannot be said for his Indian Premier League team, Royal Challengers Bangalore as the cricketer can miss a few games to prepare well for the World Cup.

Plessis, who is the captain of IPL franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore, had a terrific IPL 2023 season, where he scored 730 runs in 14 matches. Plessis never announced his retirement from the white-ball format, but he was sidelined from the team since 2021. Since his snub from the national team, Plessis has played several T20I leagues and is in contention to be back to the national side for the upcoming mega tournament.

I can return to international cricket: Faf Du Plessis

The former Proteas’ skipper said that he can make his return to international cricket during the 2024 tournament. He was in a conversation with the broadcaster of the Abu Dhabi T10 League. He was quoted by Sports Today as saying, "I believe that I can return to international cricket as well. We have been speaking about this for the last couple of years. It's just figuring out the balance of the T20 World Cup next year. It's certainly something we have spoken about with the new coach.”

The 39-year-old added, "I do a lot of hard work to ensure I look after my body to be able to play this brilliant game we love so much. When you do get a little bit older, you have to make sure you put in the work. Otherwise, the hamstring and other body parts do not work that well. There is a lot of fast running and a lot of stuff to make sure that level where you can play against the best players in the world.”
