Australia’s tennis star Nick Kyrgios has revealed that he is ‘not sad’ after losing Wimbledon’s final last year to Novak Djokovic. The 28-year-old suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the final of the third Grand Slam last year despite winning the first set with a score of 4–6, 6–3, 6–4, 7–6.

Kyrgios has been struggling with injuries and motivation issues in the past year and has played only a handful of tournaments and has slipped to number 32 in the world rankings. The Australian expressed that every Grand Slam is great but there is something in Wimbledon ‘that just breathes it’.

The Aussie said, “I was 1 short but I'm not sad about saying I lost to the GOAT & gave him a real match. I don't think I've got anything left to prove in my career. I beat some amazing players, won really big events, made a GS Final, won a doubles GS.”

Kyrgios also said that he is not bothered by the pressure of not winning an individual Grand Slam and is not under any pressure. "I know what I need to do to be successful. I think all the pressure is off me, to be honest. I think that people always say once you have results, that's when the pressure starts kicking in. But for me, it's been the reverse my whole career. When I've won tournaments or when I've done really well, it's almost the opposite," Kyrgios said.

Kyrgios will begin his Wimbledon campaign against Belgian David Goffin on Monday, July 3. He could face a potential quarter-final clash with world number one Djokovic, who is chasing his eighth Wimbledon title.
