Former India and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Virat Kohli on Tuesday, March 19 made his first official appearance at the RCB Unbox event, ahead of the IPL 2024. The star batter received a rousing welcome at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru as he along with RCB captain Faf du Plessis and women’s team skipper Smriti Mandhana took the centre stage.
Kohli, who has been with the Bengaluru-based franchise since the start of IPL in 2008 was honoured with fans’ chants. While he was welcomed with “King Kohli” chants, later during the RCB Unbox event, the stalwart of the game requested the host of the evening Danish Sait and the fans to not call him “King”.
The host asked the Indian batter, “How is the King feeling?” which saw the crowd going berserk. Virat was quick to respond, stating, “Firstly, you need to stop calling me that word (King). Please call me Virat. Don’t call me that word (king). I was just telling Faf that I feel embarrassed every year when you call me that word. So just call me Virat, please from now on. Don’t use that word, it’s very embarrassing for me.”
