After failing to score against Omonia in the UEFA Europa League, Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo finally scored his highly anticipated 700th club career goal against Everton at the Goodison Park on Sunday to help his team secure a 2-1 win. After the game, Everton boss Frank Lampard admitted that he wanted the United striker to score in the Europa League to avoid his desperation to score against the Toffees.

During the game against Everton, Cristiano Ronaldo came off the bench to replace injured Anthony Martial in the 29th minute when both the clubs were levelled on score. After just 15 minutes of his appearance, Ronaldo scored his 700th club career goal and the winner for the Red Devils.

After the game, Everton boss appreciated 'one of the greatest players' and said, "It is outstanding, one of the greatest players that has graced the game in an era when we have had himself and (Lionel) Messi.  The comparison doesn’t matter; they are both incredible players in football history. The numbers they have racked up, they are abnormal numbers that have become normal year after year."

Further, Lampard revealed that he wanted Ronaldo to score against Omonia to reduce his desire to score against Everton and said, "I don’t know him particularly well, but you can do nothing but admire him.  When he was on 699, I wanted him to score in the Europa League the other night because you knew what was coming at the weekend if he didn’t."

Apart from Lampard, United coach Erik ten Hag also hailed the 37-year-old legendary striker and said, "That is really impressive. When you score 700 goals, it’s a huge performance. I’m really happy for him, I congratulate him on that performance and I’m also happy it’s his first goal this season in the Premier League – he had to wait for it and I’m sure there will be more goals."
