Iga Swiatek is currently ranked No. 3 in the world after holding the position of world No. 1 ranking for a sensational time period of 125 weeks a couple of years ago.
She lost her spot after her unexpected fourth round exit in the US Open 2023, which saw the Belarusian international Aryna Sabaleka taking the position she had dominated for so many weeks. The player was recently seen on the ‘Served’ podcast of Andy Roddick, who was a former World No.1 tennis player himself. Over there, Swiatek expressed her feelings on losing the world No. 1 ranking, stating that at first it was very difficult for her to accept it, but gradually as time passed she felt a bit free and accepted it. Ultimately, she returned to the top by the end of the same year.
I’ve got to say it was freeing in 2023 but not at first: Iga Swiatek
In the podcast with Roddick, Iga Swiatek stated, “When I lost the No. 1 to Aryna for a couple of weeks, I was kind of devastated, but then it was freeing when I kind of worked through it, and when I turned it around to something positive. Being motivated and actually convincing myself that now I’m going to be able to focus on hunting instead of being hunted.”
Now, Iga Swiatek is focused on reclaiming the world No. 1 spot by the end of the year. She has increased her chances of claiming it after she managed to win the Wimbledon recently by defeating Amanda Anisimova 6-0. 6-0 in the final.
