After Manchester United registered a narrow 1-0 win over Fulham at the Craven Cottage in the Premier League, manager Ruben Amorim suggested that he will rather have the 63-year-old goal-keeping coach Jorge Vital on the bench before Marcus Rashford. The scathing remark from Amorim came on the heels of his 40th birthday when he was asked about what the future holds for Rashford at his boyhood club amidst rumours of leaving in the ongoing January transfer window.

Notably, the Premier League contest between Manchester United and Fulham, in which Marcus Rashford wasn’t even on the bench, was a cagey affair with not many clear cut chances for either of the teams in the final third. With both defenses being quite solid, it was a deflected strike from Lisandro Martinez from outside the box in the 78th minute, which Bernd Leno wasn’t able to keep out, gave Manchester United a valuable 1-0 lead, and they managed to hold on to it despite the attempts from Fulham to get an equaliser.

I would put Vital before a player who doesn't give the maximum: Amorim on Rashford

Due to this vital victory away from home in the Premier League, Manchester United jumped to 12th place in the standings with 29 points in 23 matches, jumping ahead of West Ham United and Crystal Palace. In the post-match, when Ruben Amorim was asked about the latest around Marcus Rashford, he said, as per BBC Sport, “It's always the same reason - the training, the way I see a footballer should do in life. It's every day, every detail. If things don't change, I will not change. It's the same situation for every player, if you do the maximum and right things we can use every player.”

Following that, Ruben Amorim made himself perfectly clear to the press by saying, “You can see on the bench we miss a bit of pace on the bench, but I would put [Manchester United goalkeeper coach Jorge] Vital before a player who doesn't give the maximum every day.” Moreover, as per the sources associated with Marcus Rashford, the 27-year-old doesn’t have any issues with Ruben Amorim, and he is willing to play for the club once again despite being linked to various clubs in Europe and elsewhere for a move.
