The International Cricket Council (ICC) have asked about the details from Cricket Canada (CC) in regard to theft and fraud allegations levelled against the new CEO Salman Khan. It was two months ago when the current CC CEO got charged by Calgary Police in connection with alleged misappropriation of funds amounting to nearly $200,000 Canadian during 2014 to 2016 when he was the President of the Calgary and District Cricket League (CDCL).
As per the report published in ESPNcricinfo, Salman Khan, who became the Cricket Canada CEO in January this year, has denied the allegations levelled against him, but despite that, the ICC have now decided to get to the bottom of the situation. Moreover, apart from the current CC CEO, the treasurer of the CDCL at the time, has also been charged for the same alleged offence as well.
The charges relate to the alleged misappropriation of funds by Mr Khan and an accomplice: ICC
The letter from the ICC, addressed to Cricket Canada, signed by their General Manager of Development, William Glenwright, read, “The charges relate to the alleged misappropriation of funds by Mr Khan and an accomplice (the league's treasurer) in an amount of around CAD $200,000 over the period 2014-2016.” Following that, the letter had details about four pieces of information in regard to the charges, which have been asked by ICC from CC.
“1. What process did Cricket Canada follow in hiring its new CEO? 2. Was anyone in the board aware of the allegations against Khan during the recruitment process? 3. If not, when did Cricket Canada become aware? 4. What actions, if any, has Cricket Canada taken?,” read the ICC letter. ESPNcricinfo has also alluded to the ICC’s Code of Ethics Section 2.2.3.3., which could be in play in regard to the case despite the fact that only information has been asked, as of this writing.
When Salman Khan was first charged by Calgary Police, he took to his official Facebook account, to not only deny the allegations, but also stated that he is looking to fight for justice.
