It was an embarrassing moment for the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday. The world cricket governing body failed to recognise an international player on social media and found itself in a pretty difficult situation. Notably, in its social media posts, the official handle of ICC wrongly tagged Sri Lanka captain Dimuth Karunaratne in a post instead of Lahiru Thirimanne. While Karunaratne starred in the first Test match against Bangladesh which ended in a draw and scored a fine double-hundred, Thirimane had also scored a handy half-century. However, two days after the match ended, ICC shared a picture of Thirimanne playing a picture perfect drive but wrongly tagged Karunaratne.

Although the pic was simply captioned as "Precision. Elegance. Poise,” it was the tags feature where they made a blunder. It didn't take long for ardent followers of the game to point the mistake out to ICC. “Dear ICC, he is Thirimanne, not Karunaratne,” wrote a social media user. Meanwhile, even the official Facebook fan page of Karunaratne commented on the post saying "That's not me."

ICC later corrects the mistake

Notably, they had made the post live across all social media platforms with the same mistake. However, after fans highlighted the mistake, ICC was quick to make amends. Meanwhile, the pitch used for the first Test at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium has received a below-average rating from the ICC. The wicket on offer was evidently a batting-friendly one and the batters made the most out of the surface as a total of 1289 runs were scored over the course of five days with no result possible.
