The 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is nearing its business end, a few teams will be getting back to the drawing board to plan better for the next edition, hoping to end their title drought. Among them, one are the five-time champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who are likely to end the season at the bottom most spot.
As reiterated several times by their stand-in skipper MS Dhoni that they have started to prepare for the next edition already, several former cricketers have also shared a few suggestions, hoping that the former champions comeback stronger. With their stalwart, MS Dhoni likely to continue in the IPL 2026, former India cricketer and coach Sanjay Bangar had a different take on the veteran’s future.
If I was MS Dhoni, I would say enough: Sanjay Bangar on MS Dhoni
Speaking on ESPNcricinfo, the former India cricketer stated that if he would have been in MS Dhoni’s shoes, he would call it quits. “I mean, it all boils down to MS, but if I were MS, I would say enough that, okay, I've played whatever I wanted to play. I have looked after the interest of the franchise as well, if there is any, if that was the motivation.”
“But, you know, you move on, because maybe allow that by you being there. If you're thinking that the transition will happen fast, is this never an ideal time to pick, so you might as well have peace with the fact that, okay, even if I leave now, the franchise will develop on its own. Maybe it'll take a year longer, but I'm not going to be here for the entire cycle,” the 52-year-old stated.
It is to be noted that MS Dhoni was retained by the Yellow Army for INR 4 Crore after the IPL General Council re-introduced the uncapped rule. Speaking of his numbers this season, MS Dhoni has scored just 196 runs at a strike rate of 135.17 in 13 matches. He took over the captaincy reins mid-season after Ruturaj gaikwad was ruled out with an elbow injury and will walk for the final time as captain on May 25 when CSK take on Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad.
