In the build-up to India’s highly awaited FIFA World Cup 2026 joint qualification match against Kuwait, the head coach Igor Stimac has provided a positive update from the team’s training camp. He took to his X account to state that the senior players are sharing their experiences with the youngsters, helping them feel comfortable in a new environment.
In the Group A of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers (AFC - Second Round), India are currently in second place behind Qatar with four points and a goal-difference of (-3). After registering their first win of the campaign against Kuwait 1-0 away, the Blue Tigers will be hoping to defeat them once again, this time at home in the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on June 6, to get a step closer to making the Asian Cup and the third round of FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers.
In his post on X, Igor Stimac shared a video from the training camp of the Indian football team, where he can be seen putting the players through the rigours before the big game next month. He also wrote his thoughts about the training camp, “10 days in, players are responding well. Happy to see the senior players making first time campers feel comfortable and sharing their experience with the young boys on a daily basis.”
Notably, India’s upcoming match against Kuwait will be the last one in the international career of Sunil Chhetri, who has recently announced his retirement from national duty in a heartfelt post on social media. The Indian footballing legend received tons of good wishes from the entire sporting community in his homeland, while the worldwide footballing community also acknowledged his contributions to the sport.
After playing against Kuwait, the Indian football team will be taking on Qatar at the new Ahmad bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan for their final Group A match of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers (AFC - Second Round).
