After session 1 of 2nd Test got washed out, India won the toss and opted to bat first before start of the play. Mayank Agarwal's sensational century helped India to post 325 runs on board. Axar Patel also recorded his maiden Test fifty while batting at number 8 position. Ajaz Patel was star bowler for New Zealand as he picked up all 10 wickets of Team India in 1st innings.

Indian bowlers in reply were terrific as they bundled out Kiwis for just 62 runs. Mohammed Siraj started off his spell impressively by picking up 3 early wickets of Will Young, Tom Latham and Ross Taylor while Ravi Ashwin registered four-wicket haul at the later stage of the innings to wind up things early for his side. India, instead of enforcing follow-on, decided to bat once again in the game and ended up scoring 69/0 at the end of day on Saturday.
