Indian batter Shreyas Iyer , who is set to make a comeback in competitive cricket, after a long gap due to a back injury, was seen sweating it out during the practice camp ahead of a clash against Pakistan. India is set to begin their Asia Cup 2023 journey on September 2, as they go head-to-head against Pakistan in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Iyer, who has been out of action since March would make his comeback in the squad with the game.
On the match eve, the 28-year-old practised in the training camp, and while he took on fast bowlers easily, Iyer was in visible discomfort as he faced spinners. In addition, star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who is coming on the back of leading the Indian side in the T20I series against Ireland, also toiled hard in the nets on Friday, August 1. The 29-year-old tried his hands at both old and new balls during the training session.
While the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was spotted practising pull shots during India's training game ahead of the big day, batters Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma reportedly missed the session altogether. Varma, who made his debut for the Indian side in the T20I series against West Indies, got called up for the marquee event and is set to make his debut in the 50-over format also.
Notably, on the eve of the big clash, Pakistan announced their playing XI against India. There are no changes in the Pakistan lineup from their first match against Nepal in the continental cricket tournament, at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan, which they won by a massive margin of 238 runs.
