On August 25, Friday, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) released the list of 634 athletes who will participate for India in the upcoming Asian Games 2023. The 19th edition of the multi-sporting event will take place from September 23 to October 8 in the city of Hangzhou, China.
Team India is set to compete across 38 sporting disciplines in the upcoming Asiad, wherein some of the best players from the continent will take on each other to win medals for their country. The selection of 634 athletes in the Indian contingent for Asian Games 2023 happened, after they met the set selection criteria, against the 850 athletes recommended by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) for the upcoming event.

Some of the big names to feature in the continental games will be Olympic medalists Neeraj Chopra, Bajrang Punia, PV Sindhu, and Mirabai Chanu, among others.
During the Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta-Palembang, India had 572 athletes competing, the record at the time, which is now eclipsed by the 634 athletes, set to take part in the upcoming Asiad next month. With that, the Indian fans could expect a medal tally far greater than 69 medals won in Indonesia five years ago, including 16 golds.
The clearance from the Sports Ministry came for India men’s and women’s cricket teams, each comprising 15 members. The football contingent stands at 44 members, including 22 members each for men’s and women’s team, while the hockey contingent stands at 36 members, including 18 members each for men’s and women’s teams.
The track and field team from India will have - 34 men and 31 women players - in the Asian Games 2023, while shooting will feature 30 members at the event, including 16 men and 14 women players.
