India Open 2022: Saina Nehwal, Lakshya Sen progress to next round, HS Prannoy too advances

The second day of the BWF India Open saw India's top seeds making it through to the next rounds in respective categories. Young shuttler Lakshya Sen, ace shuttler Saina Nehwal, and HS Prannoy advanced to the next rounds with easy wins. Meanwhile, the women's doubles duo of Ashwini Ponappa and N Sikki Reddy also made progress to the next round.

In the men's singles category, third seed Lakshya Sen registered an easy victory over Egypt's Adham Hatem Elgamal. Sen defeated the Egyptian in two straight games of 21-15, 21-7 in just 25 minutes to progress to the round of 16. Meanwhile, eighth seed HS Prannoy defeated Spain's Pablo Abian 21-14, 21-7 in 33 minutes to make it to the next round. Sen will play Swedish shuttler Felix Burestedt in the Round of 16 clash, while Prannoy will face compatriot Mithun Manjunath on Thursday.

A win for Saina Nehwal

In the women's singles category, former world no. 1 Saina, who missed a lot of tournaments last year due to multiple injuries, moved to the second round after her opponent Czech Republic's Tereza Svabikova suffered a back injury and retired mid-way while lagging 20-22, 0-1 in the opening round match. Saina will be up against compatriot Malvika Bansod in the R16 Clash.

The women's doubles pair of Ashwini Ponappa and N Sikki Reddy beat compatriot Janani Ananthakumar/Divya Balasubramanian duo 21-7, 19-21, 21-13 in 38 minutes. They will now face Russian duo of Ekaterina MALKOVA and Anastasiia SHAPOVALOVA in R16 match. Meanwhile, the Men's Doubles duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated the compatriot duo of Ravi and Chirag Arora 21-14, 21-10 in 35 minutes. They will face Shyam Prasad and S Sunjith duo in the Round of 16 clash on Thursday.

Sindhu, Srikanth will be in action too

India's ace shuttles in the men's and women's singles category, Kidambi Srikanth and PV Sindhu will also be in action on Thursday. While Sindhu will be up against Ira Sharma of India, Srikanth will face Denmark's Kim Brunn in his Round of 16 clash. Earlier, on Tuesday Sindhu had defeated Sri Krishna Priya to progress to the next round while Srikanth had emerged victorious over Siril Verma.

India's young sensation Ashmita Chaliha, who took down fifth seed Evgeniya Kosetskaya in her Round of 32 match, will be up against French shuttler Yaelle Hoyaux.
