The start from the openers, including Tagenarine Chanderpaul and the leader of the Caribbean team was quite solid against the new ball. They played out a menacing spell from Mohammed Siraj and Jaydev Unadkat to put together a 31-run stand. It led to the Indian captain Rohit Sharma bringing Ravichandran Ashwin into the attack, who managed to castle the young left-handed opener with a classical off-spinner for 12.
From this moment onwards, the West Indies batting fell away off the cliff against the Indian spin pairing of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, who picked up five and three wickets each to bundle out the hosts for 150 runs. Alick Athanaze, the left-handed debutant, playing in front of his home fans in Dominica, scored an enterprising 47 off 99 deliveries.
In response with the bat, the Indian captain and opener Rohit Sharma combined with the debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal to take the team to the close of play on day 1 at 80/0.
Looking forward to day 2, the weather in Roseau, Dominica is expected to be sunny right throughout the day with just a three per cent probability of precipitation.
The maximum temperature may reach 31 degrees Celsius, while the real feel could be 35 degrees Celsius when West Indies and India take the field at Windsor Park.
