Madhura Dhamangaonkar clinched her maiden individual World Cup gold as India now have won five medals in the ongoing Archery World Cup in China. Madhura defeated USA’s Carson Krahe by 139-138 in a thrilling final of the Women's Archery Compound final to seal the top spot in the championship on Saturday. The Indian contingent now has five medals in the 2025 Archery World Cup Stage 2, including two gold, one silver and two bronze.
Earlier, Madhura Dhamangaonkar ended up winning the silver medal in an individual competition and a bronze in the mixed team event along with Abhishek Verma. Now she ended up winning three medals in the competition with a gold. 24-year-old Madhura had never won a World Cup before this tournament. This was her second appearance after the 2022 Archery World Cup Stage 4 in Medellin.
Indian men’s team clinch gold by defeating Mexico in final
The main highlight of the day was the Indian men’s team winning the gold medal on Saturday. The Indian team including Abhishek Verma, Ojas Deotale and Rishabh Yadav defeated Mexico by 232-228 in a thrilling final. India took an early two-point lead but Mexico made a comeback on halfway stage as the scores were level by 115-115. After that, the Indian players held their nerves till the end and ended up winning the contest.
In the women’s compound final, Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Madhura Dhamangaonkar and Chikitha Taniparthi had to settle for a silver after losing against Mexico by 221-234. Now, the Indian contingent has won five medal in the 2025 Archery World Cup Stage 2. The compound archery is also set to make its debut in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympis and India will be looking to have a remarkable campaign their and win their maiden archery medal in a mega event.
