The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne is set to take place this year from August 12-20. IFFM has invited legendary cricketer Kapil Dev to be the guest of honor as Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh's movie '83' will be celebrated at the festival.

Apart from former Indian skipper Kapil Dev, Bollywood actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu and '83' director Kabir Khan have also been included in the guest list of IFFM.

Kapil Dev believes that sports and cinema are two major aspects that unite the world, he said, "I look forward to being part of IFFM 2022. It’s a great platform celebrating the best in Indian cinema. I truly do believe that sports and cinema are two major cultural experiences for not only Indians but various communities and countries that bind us together. It’s something for decades now that has united people."

"It’s a deep rooted emotional connection and love we have for both cinema and sports, and when they come together it’s a rewarding experience for everyone," he added.

IFFM 2022 will be screening over a hundred films from a range of genres and languages for both virtual and physical audiences. The festival is set to kick off on August 12 while the annual awards gala will take place on August 14, a day before India's 75th Independence Day.

After being held virtually for the last two years owing to the pandemic, the largest festival of its kind in Melbourne will be held physically this year. In 2019, the festival starred the likes of Shahrukh Khan, Arjun Kapoor, Tabu, Vijay Sethupathi, Karan Johar among others.
