On Sunday, March 2, a member of the Indian cricket team, R Devraj left the side in Dubai, midway during the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy. The Indian team manager had to depart abruptly to attend a family breavement. This sudden departure of R Devraj was due to his mother’s demise, who breathed his last on Sunday morning in Hyderabad.
The news was confirmed by the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) on Sunday, ahead of India’s final group stage match against New Zealand. Furthermore, it is to be noted that R Devraj currently serves as the Secretary of the HCA.
R Devraj leaves Team India in Dubai due to a family emergency
However, R Devraj’s availability for India’s Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final clash is still unknown, but a decision on his return to Dubai will be confirmed after the side’s outcome of the semi-final, where they are scheduled to face Australia on Tuesday, March 4.
Earlier in the day, the HCA expressed condolences to R Devraj and his family. "With deep sorrow, we inform you that our Secretary Devraj's mother, Kamaleshwari garu, has passed away. May her soul rest in peace. Our heartfelt condolences to Devraj garu and his family," the HCA said in a statement.
Speaking of Team India, the Rohit Sharma-led side are still unbeaten in the ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025. After they beat Bangladesh by six wickets, they then went onto beat arch-rivals Pakistan in Dubai. In the final group stage match, where they faced New Zealand, the Men in Blue defeated the Kiwis by 44 runs to go to the top of the table.
