Following the appointment of Ramesh Powar as the Head Coach of Indian women's national cricket team, it looks like that a very new-look staff will accompany the team for their upcoming tour of England. The team has reportedly appointed two new coaches (for batting and fielding) who will be part of the nine-member support staff slated to travel to England.
Who are the two new coaches for Indian Women's team?
As per reports, former Indian opener Shiv Sunder Das has been appointed as the batting coach for England tour. The 43-year-old has previously worked with the India women's A team and will now work with the senior side. Das was delighted to get this opportunity as he said, "This is the first time I have been assigned a job with the India women's national team, so it's a quite exciting time for me. I'm really looking forward to it. It will be a good challenge for me because I've toured England as a player and played a lot of league cricket. Conditions-wise I'm a bit familiar, so it will be nice to add value to the team. My focus is only on the England tour as of now because I've come in for the England tour," as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
Apart from Das, the women's team will also have a new fielding coach in the form of former first-class cricketer Abhay Sharma. The 52-year-old has worked with Indian men's team in 2016 under interim coach Sanjay Bangar and has also been the fielding coach of India A and India U-19 sides in past. The support staff is also expected to include trainer R Naresh, video analyst Sandeep Raju and masseur Neerja Desai. However, former Indian cricketer Narendra Hirwani, who worked as a spin consultant under WV Raman, reportedly does not feature in the staff list.
