Indian doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila and M.R. Arjun has pulled out of BWF Malaysia Super 1000 tournament. The BWF Malaysia Open is set to kick starts from January 10 at the Axiata Arena, Kaula Lumpur with the final set to take place on the 15th of January 2023.
Talking about the Indian doubles pair, the decision of their withdrawal comes after M.R. Arjun sustained an injury. However, the Indian duo will target a return in the Thailand Open with the Olympic qualification cycle. Notably, Dhruv and Arjun will miss the India Open, a Super 750 tournament which is set to take place in Delhi from January 17 (Tuesday).
“I had this injury while training during the French Open, so I had to withdraw from Hylo Open. I felt I had recovered but I felt discomfort again while we started training a few weeks back, so now I am in Mumbai to address it,” said Arjun.
“It is nothing major, I have been advised to start rehab and depending on how I do this week, will take a call. So, we have withdrawn from Malaysia Open. I am not sure about India Open as of now, my main priority is to get my fitness back as it is an important year for us,” he further added.
The doubles pair of Dhruv and Arjun is ranked twenty-one. However, they will have to improve this with the upcoming tournaments to be in the final qualifiers list of the Olympic Games, set to be announced on April 30, 2024.
