Amid all the doubts if IPL 2021 will happen or not, BCCI has finally come up with a plan to conduct the remainder of the tournament in the September-October window. As per the reports, the board is in talks with the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) to host the tournament in UAE.

Key details about the remainder of IPL 2021

As per media reports, the plan is to get all the players to assemble in UAE by 15th September. Post a 3-4 day quarantine period, the tournament is expected to begin by 19th or 20th September. With a total of 31 matches to be conducted, it is expected that there will be 10 double headers, 7 single-day games and 4 playoff games to complete the tournament. The finals of IPL 2021 is expected to take place on 10th October.

What is the expected plan of action?

Post the completion of ‘The Hundred’ on August 21, the players are expected to fly to St. Kitts to take part in the Caribbean Premier League, which is currently scheduled to take place from August 28 to September 19. However, BCCI are in talks with Cricket West Indies to rearrange the dates of CPL 2021 in a bid to finish the tournament by September 14 or 15.

With BCCI having good ties with the board and Shah Rukh Khan owned Trinbago Knight Riders also involved, it is expected that they will be able to negotiate successfully. Hence, all the key T20 players playing in CPL will be able to fly from St. Kitts to Dubai by 15th September. On the other hand, the final Test between India and England will also end on September 14 and the players of both sides can have a bubble-to-bubble transfer from the UK to UAE.

This is how, after 3-4 days of quarantine for all players, IPL 2021 will be able to commence by September 19 or 20. With the tournament coming to an end by October 10, the players could then join their respective national teams’ bubble for the T20 World Cup, which is also expected to be hosted by UAE, starting from October 18.
