Prediction of the Game

The much-awaited IPL 2022 kicked off with a match between CSK and KKR on Saturday. Although the first game threw a few punches at spectators, the fans are feeling the heat of the tournament already. The first doubleheader of the season arrived really quickly with Delhi, Mumbai, Punjab, and Bangalore in action on an eventful Sunday. While DC and MI lock horns in the day game, it will be PBKS vs RCB later in the day.

With the Delhi and Mumbai fans eagerly waiting for their teams to take the field on Sunday, SportsTiger is here with some predictions for the third game of the season based on some statistical assumptions.

1. Toss

Although getting the toss right is not anyone's hand, some captains have good luck with them. Rohit Sharma is one of those captains who have managed to call it right at the flip of the coin most of the time. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant is still young and understanding the technicalities of a coin and learning how to get it roll in his favor. The numbers also say the same story as MI have won four out of the last five tosses while DC have won just two in the last five games. Thus, MI will be likely to win the toss on Sunday.

2. Win Possibility

Looking at the head-to-head record between these two teams, Mumbai are a tad ahead of Delhi. They have won two games more than what DC have managed to win against MI. However, in a new season, it will be tough to predict which way the match is going to go. Mumbai will be missing their key player, Suryakumar Yadav. Delhi will also be without some of their top players. But they have enough firepower to win them the game. So, Delhi are the favorites to win the match.

3. Team of the day

Delhi Capitals will be the team of the day with some big hitters in their hut. Captain Rishabh Pant will be the center of attraction. Another player who will have everyone glued to the screen will be Rovman Powell. The West Indian had set the stage on fire with his sixes against India in the recently concluded T20I series.

4. Powerplay score

The average powerplay score in IPL 2021 by Mumbai Indians was 48.29 for the loss of one wicket. Meanwhile, Delhi managed to score 48.81 runs in the first six overs and lost 1.19 wicket in the process. So, MI are expected to continue with their approach with the opening pair of Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma and the powerplay score for MI is expected to stay under 48 runs. Meanwhile, for DC, with aggressor Prithvi Shaw opening the innings, they are expected to score over 50 runs in the powerplay.

5. First innings and second innings score

As the Brabourne Stadium is known to aid the batters, the scores are expected to be at the higher side. But since the game is a day game, something around 170-180 will be a good total to achieve in the first innings. And chasing won't be easy with the pitch slowing down later in the game. Thus, the second innings score may stay in the range of 140-160.
