Pat Cummins-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) kickstarted their IPL 2024 on a losing note despite putting a great fight in their opener at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. However, the Hyderabad-based franchise won the toss and invited the hosts to bat first, Heinrich Klaasen’s crucial knock gave a ray hope at one point, but his dismissal turned the tables for them.
Chasing a 208-run target, the SRH needed 13 runs off the final over. However, Klaasen’s six off Harshit Rana on the first delivery just added that cheer and smiles on the face of SRH fans, including their owner Kavya Maran. The owner of the Hyderabad-based outfit, who has been a common spectator during the IPL was seen celebrating as Klaasen smashed a six off the first ball of the over.
In the videos going viral, the daughter of Kalanthi Maran, the billionaire media mogul and the Chairman of the Sun Group jumped in joy to celebrate the six as the SRH just needed seven run off five balls in the penultimate over. But her reaction from elation to massive heartbreak after Klaasen’s wicket, became a talking point among fans on social media.

Speaking of the match, the Pat Cummins-led side invited KKR to bat first. On the back of Andre Russell’s unbeaten knock of 64, which included three boundaries and seven maximums, along with a half century from Philip Salt, the Shreyas Iyer-led side posted 208 runs on the board. On the contrary, some crucial contributions from Heinrich Klaasen and quickfire knock from Shahbaz Ahmed helped SRH to a competitive total but eventually fell short by four runs.
The SRH will next take on Mumbai Indians at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on March 27.
