With the IPL 2025 mega auction currently in the works, all the 10 teams in the league are figuring out their permutations and combinations surrounding which players to retain ahead of the retention deadline of 5 PM on Thursday, October 31. While the main focus of attention for all the IPL franchises will be the capped players, the value of an uncapped player can’t be understated in a league which is played over a two-month period, wherein a lot of personnel changes becomes a necessity more often than not.
As per the IPL governing council rules for the 2025 season, with the auction purse increased to a whopping INR 120 Crore, the minimum base price for an uncapped player was increased from INR 20 Lakh to INR 30 Lakh as well. This means that the base price categories for the uncapped players will be INR 30 Lakh, INR 40 Lakh, and INR 50 Lakh, with the latter one being the maximum base price for the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction.
MS Dhoni's maximum base price at IPL 2025 Mega Auction could be INR 50 Lakh
Since former India captain MS Dhoni has been retired from international cricket for more than five years, he will be listed as an uncapped player according to the new rules for the upcoming season of the IPL. With that, if he decides to not get retained by Chennai Super Kings for INR 4 Crore, then his maximum base price at the IPL 2025 mega auction will be INR 50 Lakh, an amount which all the other nine franchises will be more than happy to bid for him.
In the same vein, the minimum base price for the capped players was increased from INR 50 Lakh to INR 75 Lakh, with the remaining four slabs listed as INR 1 Crore, INR 1.25 Crore, INR 1.50 Crore, and INR 2 Crore, with the latter one being the maximum base price. The IPL 2025 mega auction will be a spectacle like no other with so many different rules changes set to bring up new scenarios, but before that, it will be vital for all the 10 teams to retain the best possible set of players, to build their squad for the next season.
