The recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2022 saw England lifting the trophy for the second time as they defeated Pakistan in the final. As a result, three English players including Sam Curran, Ben Stokes and Harry Brook received massive bids in the IPL 2023 auction.

The IPL 2023 mini auction took place at the Grand Hyatt hotel in Kochi on Friday, December 23 and six England players were picked in the first attempt while two players remained unsold. 

The Player of the tournament in the T20 World Cup 2022, Sam Curran became the most expensive player in the history of the IPL as Punjab Kings bought the 24-year-old all-rounder for a whopping INR 18.50 Crore. While the Three Lions captain in Tests, Ben Stokes became joint-third most expensive player as Chennai Super Kings bought the 31-year-old for INR 16.25 Crore levelling Chris Morris' 2021 record.

However, players like Joe Root, Tom Banton, Chris Jordan, Luke Wood and Dawid Malan remained unsold in the first pick. While players like  Will Smeed,  Jamie Overton,  Richard Gleeson,  Rehan Ahmed and  Tom Curran were not picked by any team.

Apart from them, batsman Harry Brook was sold to SunRisers Hyderabad for INR 13.25 Crore and became England's third expensive player in the IPL 2023 auction. While Royal Challengers Bangalore bought Will Jacks and Reece Topley for INR 3.20 Crore and 1.90 Crore, respectively, Rajasthan Royals bought Joe Root on his base price of INR 1 Crore.

Players like Phil Salt and Adil Rashid were sold for INR 2.20 Crore and 2 Crore to Delhi Capitals and SunRisers Hyderabad respectively.
