Preview

The Hardik Pandya-led India have gone 1-0 up in the two-match T20I series as they beat Ireland by seven wickets in the rain-affected 1st T20I. Now it all rolls down to the second match where both teams will eye a win. While India will have the series win on the back of their mind, Andrew Balbirnie’s Ireland will be looking to level it. Rain will be a crucial factor in the second T20I as well.

Pitch Report

The pitch at the Village Stadium is expected to be a belter with the ball coming on the bat nicely. The weather, however, will present a big challenge for the batters as the ball will swing early in the innings.

Team Analysis

India

Although the first T20I saw a 12-over match per side, India completely dominated Ireland. After restricting Ireland to 108 in their 12 overs, the Hardik Pandya-led side chased down the total in just 54 balls. Deepak Hooda, Ishan Kishan, and Hardik Pandya played handy knocks to take the team over the line. Hooda, in particular, was the most impressive batter with his knock of 47* off 29 balls. Sent in to open the innings with Ishan Kishan, Hooda took Ireland by the cleaners as he scored four boundaries and two sixes in his innings. Captain Pandya also scored a quickfire 24 off 12 balls before he was trapped by Joshua Little. It will be interesting to see if the Men in Blue can repeat the performance from the 1st T20I.

Ireland

Andrew Balbirnie-led Ireland posed a tough challenge for India but that proved not enough. Nonetheless, the hosts will look at the positives from the game. After losing their top three batters, Paul Stirling, Andrew Balbirnie, and Gareth Delany early in the innings, Harry Tector played a gem of an inning. The 22-year-old scored 64* off 33 balls to propel his team to a fighting total of 108/4. After that, Craig Young impressed with the ball. The right-arm quick claimed two wickets in his two overs as he got Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav on consecutive deliveries. Although Ireland lost, they had a few good performances and the skipper will just hope for an upgrade from the 1st T20I.
