Star Indian cricketer Rinku Singh is likely to join politics and work with the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government. As per the report by the Times of India, the current UP Government lead by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has started to the process to appoint him as District Basic Education Officer (BSA). A source from the TOI said that the government has already issued an order regarding Rinku’s appointment in the education department and the preparations have also been started.
Recently, Rinku Singh also got engaged to Samajwadi Party MP Priya Saroj and the couple will get married soon. The engagement ceremony took place in a private ceremony in Lucknow on June 8 with some notable personalities from cricket, Bollywood and politics making their presence. Notably, Rinku and Priya’s marriage was scheduled to take place in November this year but has been postponed due to Rinku’s cricketing commitments at that time. Now, he is also set to join politics as he can be seen as a leader in the education department of the UP Government.
Rinku Singh set to be appointed under International Medal Winner Direct Recruitment Rules
As Rinku Singh is likely to be appointed as minister in the UP government, his appointment will be made under the International Medal Winner Direct Recruitment Rules 2022. The rule was implemented to honour the sporting personalities in the country who have achieved remarkable feats in their sport. This is basically to award positions in government to such athletes.
Rinku Singh has been impressive in his short international career so far. He came into the limelight for his performance for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2023 where he finished as leading run scorer for the franchise amassing 474 runs from 14 matches. In the same year, Rinku went on to make his debut for the Indian team. So far, Rinku has played 33 T20Is and two ODIs in his international career amassing 546 runs in T20Is at an average of 42.00 and a strike rate of 161.06. He was also a part of the Indian team that won gold medal in the Asian Games in 2023
