The Indian batting duo haven't been part of the T20 set-up since the semi-final loss in the 2022 T20 World Cup against England. Speaking on the ANI podcast, Gambhir expressed that the team for the World Cup should be picked on the current form of a player. Furthering his argument, the Kolkata Knight Riders mentor expressed that BCCI should select  Rohit and Virat if they are in top form ahead of the World Cup.

Gautam Gambhir said,  “See, it all depends on the form. Ultimately, it’s the form. Good thing is it’s happening after the IPL. 100 per cent. They should be part of the World Cup if they are in good form. For me, form is important. For a T20 World Cup, you want to take players who are in really good form. If Rohit and Virat are in good form, they should absolutely be picked for the World Cup.”

Further in the podcast, the Member of Parliament from Delhi also talked about how the board shouldn't judge Rohit Sharma and his captaincy based on one bad game and should back him to lead India in the T20 World Cup. Gambhir said,  “Rohit has excelled as captain, winning five IPL trophies. India dominated the 50-over World Cup, playing like champions throughout. One bad game doesn’t make Rohit or the team bad. It’s unfair to judge him solely on that.”
