There are a few things in the cricket world that a certain Faf du Plessis can’t do! One among them is bowling- whether fast medium or spin of any form, something he really hasn’t done as on date. But having said that, whether it’s indulging in charismatic batting, including some explosive strokes all sides of the ground or playing the part of an ace fielder- then Du Plessis has done that pretty much for the entirety of his career. He’s faced some of the most intimidating bowlers from all parts of the world and made hitting fours and sixes an easy peasy task, something he likes to do with much glee. But the other thing that you can absolutely always trust Du Plessis with is pulling off stunners along the cricket ground.
A great instance of this was seen just a few hours ago during an important juncture of a cricket match featuring his Texas Super Kings side of which he is the captain.
The sheer athleticism, the sheer alertness that he brings to the game as an ace fielder and the sheer bravado with which he dives around pretty much readily is just incredible to watch.
In taking a great diving catch in the circle in which he dismissed his countryman Lohandre Pretorius at mid wicket diving to his right to bag an absolute stunner was a sheer delight. Fielding akin to a young and beaming fielder when the fact is that the experienced Protea is a 42-year-old was the very fact that made the entirety of effort truly spectacular.
The left handed big hitting Pretorius was sent back packing at the score of 17 that came off 15 deliveries.
The effort was indeed marvellous in the context of the game as in reply to Texas’ 161 runs, the San Francisco Unicorns were out for just 139.
Nikhil Uttamchandani, meanwhile, watching the live proceedings from the com box would exclaim, “Faf du Plessis is getting better with age!”
