Texas Super Kings skipper Faf du Plessis opened up on being a part of the franchise as the side recorded a six wicket win in the MLC 2026 season opener. The Kings opened their season against the Marcus Stoinis-led Seattle Orcas, and despite a 66-ball 104-run knock from Tim Seifert, Du Plessis guided the side to the first win, owing to his 52-ball unbeaten 113. Following the game, the Proteas star talked about being a part of the franchise and expressed his pleasure on the same.
The 41-year-old talked about his strong connection with the franchise and said that he is as motivated as he has ever been to perform for the side. Not only this, but he also stated that he always wants to repay the faith the franchise has shown in him over the years. "And always great to be associated with any of the Super Kings franchises. It's a good franchise to be a part of. Very loyal, great fan base as well. So you always feel like you want to repay all the years that you've been with them. So I still have that same desire. That hasn't changed,β Faf du Plessis said.

These days milestones don't mean much: Faf Du Plessis on scripting new T20 record
As du Plessis hit another century, he became the oldest player to score a T20 hundred at the age of 41 years and 340 days. With this, he surpassed former England all-rounder Paul Collingwood and became the first batter to score four tons in the history of the MLC. Not only this, but he is also now the first batter to reach 1000 runs in the tournament.
Plessis now has 1,001 runs at an average of around 59 and a strike rate of 175 across four MLC seasons. Speaking about the same, he said, "Oh my goodness. No, it's good. Even though these days milestones don't mean much, it's not something you bat for. It's about that intensity and strike rate.β
He added, βBut as long as you can keep that up, for me, it's putting a score on the board that actually wins you a match. 30s and 40s doesn't often win you games. So you want to get to that 70-plus, 75-plus where you feel you make a big contribution to getting the team over the line. And obviously, the strike rate is always important."
