Australian skipper Pat Cummins made a blunt remark on Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 opener clashing with IPL 2025 mega auction. Notably, India and Australia will be up against each other for the elite five-match competition, Border Gavaskar Trophy, set to begin on Friday, November 22. The first match scheduled to be played at the Optus Stadium will clash with the IPL 2025 mega auction on November 24, 25, which will be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Ahead of the series opener, Cummins addressed the media and when asked about the clashing of the first match with the IPL mega auction, he said that it won’t be a distraction for players on his side. He also said that most players are experienced with the auction process and will handle it as a part of their routine without letting it affect their preparations. The Aussie skipper said, 'For the players, don't think it'll be a distraction. Most of them have been in auction before so it's about going about business as usual.”

It should happen more: Pat Cummins on Jasprit Bumrah leading Indian side

The ODI World Cup 2023 winning captain also commented on Jasprit Bumrah, a fast bowler, leading the Indian side. This is going to be one of the rarest times when the series will see two fast bowlers leading their respective side. Notably, Rohit Sharma, team India’s skipper will miss the opening game of the series in Perth as he is on a paternity leave. In his absence, Bumrah will don the captaincy hat and lead the side.

The Aussie skipper reflected on the scenario and opined that more pacers should take up the leadership role in international cricket. Cummins said, “It should happen more (pacers leading teams).”
