Ahead of the second Test of the Border–Gavaskar Trophy in Adelaide, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma had a press conference where he opened up about the exclusion of senior spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin from the playing Xi in the ongoing Test series. Both the players weren’t a part of the lineup for the first Test in Perth, and are unlikely to feature in the day-night Test in Adelaide.
India are going with Washington Sundar as the only spinner in the playing XI against Australia in the ongoing Test series down under. After missing the first Test due to the birth of his son, Rohit is back to lead the Indian cricket team for the remaining four matches. Speaking at the press conference on the eve of the second Test, Rohit said it wasn’t easy to leave players like Jadeja and Ashwin out of the playing XI.
I was not there to bring this news to them (Ashwin and Jadeja): Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma missed the first Test, and is back to lead the Indian side in the rest of the Test series. The Indian skipper believes that the decision the management made in the first Test was best for the team’s interest. Notably, India won the first Test by 295 runs under the captaincy of Jasprit Bumrah at the Optus Stadium.
“Unfortunately, I was not there to bring this news to them (Ashwin and Jadeja) that they are not playing the first game. It’s always hard to leave (out) experienced players like Jadeja and Ashwin, it’s never easy,” Rohit Sharma said in press conference as quoted in News18. “But the decision was made (on the basis of) whatever was best for the team at that particular time and whatever the management felt at that particular time is the right thing to do, we did that," the Indian skipper added.
