Rahul Dravid, who is the Rajasthan Royals (RR) head coach in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, appeared in a Star Sports interview and discussed how he felt privileged to play with and against legends of the game such as Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma. However, he said his childhood heroes such as Gundappa Viswanath, Sunil Gavaskar, and Kapil Dev hold special places in his heart as he was a great fan of these Team India legends during childhood.
Under Dravid’s coaching, India won their second T20 World Cup trophy in 2024. It was the first International Cricket Council (ICC) trophy win for India after 11 years from 2013 to 2024.
“As a kid, I was like a huge Sunil Gavaskar, GR Viswanath, and Kapil dev fan. They were my legends, they were my heroes. In some ways that never changes. Your memories as a kid are your greatest memories and I think nothing can change that. I mean privileged of course to play some great cricket after that those days you know it was people like Sachin and Lara, these kinds of people, you really looked upto it. Today, now able to work, you know with the likes of Sharma, Kohli, and the next generation, yeah, it’s been quite brilliant but I think your childhood heroes are your childhood heroes, they always stay the same,” said Dravid in the interview.
RR lose to GT by 58 runs in Ahmedabad in IPL 2025
RR lost their third game of the competition after registering a 58-run thumping at the hands of Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium on April 9. Sai Sudharsan, who smashed 82 off 53 for the hosts, became the player of the match (POTM). Prasidh Krishna bagged 3/24 figures in his four-over spell and played an instrumental role in GT’s comprehensive win.
RR’s top-order batters Yashasvi Jaiswal (six off seven) and Nitish Rana (one off three) failed to be impactful in the chase which created pressure on captain Sanju Samson and middle-order batters to accumulate runs swiftly. Shimron Hetmyer scored 52 off 32 and put up some fight for Rajasthan.
